Pediatric Nephrology

Pediatric nephrology is a medical specialty focused on the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of kidney diseases in children from birth to 18 years of age. It covers a wide range of conditions — from congenital kidney anomalies to acute and chronic kidney diseases, electrolyte imbalances, renal-origin hypertension, urinary tract infections, glomerulonephritis, hematuria, proteinuria, bladder disorders, and more.

Pediatric nephrologists are an essential part of interdisciplinary teams involved in managing conditions such as growth delay, various rheumatologic, endocrinologic, and cardiologic diseases, developmental problems, and psychosocial challenges that may arise from kidney disease or lead to it.

Specialists in pediatric nephrology are trained in the use of different treatment options, including medications, dialysis (both peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis), and kidney transplantation

They collaborate with other specialists, such as urologists, surgeons, and dietitians, to provide comprehensive care for patients.
