Reproductive Gynecology

Reproductive Gynecology

Reproductive gynecology is a subdisciple of the clinical gynecology, which is dedicated to the process of becoming pregnant. Unfortunately, this does not always happen easily and on time.

In selected cases, psychological support and a simple gynecological examination to determine the precise moment of ovulation is sufficient.

In other cases, the desired pregnancy does not occur, which inevitably leads to a consultation by a specialist in reproductive gynecology and/or undergoing different specialized tests.

With the help of our specialists in reproductive gynecology at MC MARKOVS and the achievements of the current evidence based medicine, you can effectively seek and find the specific reasons or conditions leading to difficulties in becoming pregnant.

Reproductive Gynecology

The diagnosis of infertility is complex and can sometimes be a prolonged process. It involves careful evaluation and identification of the underlying causes contributing to the difficulties of getting pregnant. This is the first and probably one of the most important steps before choosing to continue with assisted reproduction.

The main methods and procedures to diagnose infertility at MC MARKOVS are:

Reproductive Gynecology
  • Patients' medical history - involves a detailed discussion of past medical history, particularly obstetrics and gynaecological history, i.e. previous pregnancies, operations, treatments or problems that may be associated with or lead to infertility;
  • Physical examination - includes an examination of the reproductive system and general health assessment;
  • Hormonal tests - anti-müllerian hormone (AMH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), prolactin, estradiol, etc., can help evaluate the ovarian function and hormonal balance, ovarian reserve test (antral folliculometry), etc.;
  • Chromosomal studies - chromosomal analysis of partners (karyotyping) and other tests to detect specific genetic abnormalities that may lead to infertility or conception problems;
  • Transvaginal or transabdominal ultrasound of the urogenital tract;
  • Other specialized procedures such as hysterosonography, hysterosalpingography, hysteroscopy, etc. These procedures can be used additionally to diagnose congenital or acquired uterine abnormalities (bicornuate uterus, fibroids, polyps, etc.), defects in the fallopian tubes, etc.;
  • Spermogram - analysis of the seminal fluid in order to assess the number, motility and morphology of the spermatozoa.

Your specialist in reproductive medicine at MC MARKOVS will choose the most appropriate tests depending on your past obstetric and medical history, as well as present clinical symptoms. The diagnostic process will try to determine the most appropriate method of assisted reproduction or will trigger the option of another therapeutic strategy. It is important to emphasize that the overall duration of the research process should not last more than 3 months.
