What are hemorrhoids?
Hemorrhoids are dilated venous plexuses in the anal canal. They often cause unpleasant symptoms such as itching, pain or bleeding, which worsens the quality of life. Obviously, in such cases some kind of treatment is required.
What are the most important treatment modalities used hemorrhoids?
There are different treatment modalities. Drug therapy is usually used as a first step for temporary relief. In the second stage, ligament ligation of the hemorrhoidal node is used. This method leads to quick, effective and immediate relief of symptoms. At the same time, it stops the development of the disease and reduces the frequency of crises. Surgical treatment is the last resort in advanced hemorrhoidal disease.
What is rubber band ligation?
The procedure consists in placing rubber bands at the base of the hemorrhoidal node. Thus, the treated hemorrhoid is deprvied from blood supply. The goal is to effectively reduce the stage of hemorrhoidal disease and to avoid surgical intervention.
How to prepare for rubber band ligation?
The rubber band ligation of hemorrhoids does not require specific preparation on the part of the patient.
How is the procedure performed?
The rubber band ligation of hemorrhoids is performed on an outpatient basis, in the office of the treating gastroenterologist. The procedure takes about 10-15 minutes and is painless.
How do I recover after the procedure?
Recovery after rubber band ligation of hemorrhoids is extremely fast. No specific hygiene, dietary or any other measures are required. After the procedure the patient may immediately return to normal daily lifestyle.
When are the relief symptoms observed after rubber band ligation?
Relief of symptoms is expected within a week after the manipulation. In some patients, a second procedure is required for a longer effect.
