Hyaluronic fillers

The Injectable hyaluronic acid is one of the types of temporary dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the body, with the highest concentrations in joints, eyes and skin.

In the skin, hyaluronic acid absorbs water, thus allowing it to become more hydrated. With age our facial fat, muscle, bone and skin begins spontaneously to lose hyaluronic acid and becomes thin.

This loss of volume results in a sunken appearance of the face, with emphasis on fine lines, wrinkles and folds, as well as in thinning of the lips.

Hyaluronic fillers

Injectable hyaluronic acid is used to correct wrinkles, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, facial contour, lips, fine lines around the mouth (barcode), under the eyes (tear trough), loss of volume, on the back, of the hands, etc.

The effects of injectable hyaluronic acid are seen immediately. Common side effects after an injection procedure are redness, swelling of the treated area, hematomas (bruises), sensitivity and mild soreness.

The results and duration are individual and vary, being influenced by the injection site, the individual properties of the hyaluronic acid filler, the age of the patient and the individual characteristics of their skin.

Before the procedure, the dermatologist will review the patient's medical history. If there is evidence of an active bacterial or viral infection (e.g. herpes), taking an antibiotic, pregnancy or breastfeeding, the procedure should be postponed. Patients taking blood-thinning medications (such as aspirin, ibuprofen, certain herbal medicines) should notify their dermatologist, but not stop taking the prescribed treatment.
