IntimaLase®
IntimaLase® is Fotona's non-invasive Er:Yag laser therapy, which is used to treat the physiological thinning of the vaginal mucosa that occurs over the years (vaginal atrophy).
Fotona's IntimaLase® laser therapy has a thermo-stimulating effect on the collagen of the vaginal walls.
This is associated with restructuring and stimulation of new connective tissue synthesis (neocollagenogenesis).
In this way, the vaginal canal is tightened and rejuvenated.
Laser treatment of the vagina aims to restore the condition of the vaginal wall from before the period of atrophy. As a result of the thickening of the mucous membrane, its supporting function against the urethra is strengthened, reducing the symptoms of urinary incontinence.
IntimaLase® therapy is a fast, non-hormonal, non-surgical, innovative, highly effective procedure performed with Fotona's high-tech NX Dynamis laser system.
The main advantage of Fotona's IntimaLase® is that the procedure is performed in an outpatient setting (in an office) – painless, without ablation, without surgical incision, without bleeding and without sutures. Recovery is extremely fast, without the need to use analgesics and antibiotics.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How does the procedure go?
Fotona's IntimaLase® laser therapy takes place in two stages. The procedure is performed on a gynecological chair. Your treating AG specialist will insert a sterile, glass speculum into the vagina, which limits its contact with the laser tip. With the laser tip, the vaginal mucosa is processed along its entire length, working according to a strictly observed protocol. There is usually no pain or burning sensation during the procedure. When processing around the entrance to the vagina, it is possible to feel a slightly stronger burning sensation, which, as a rule, is short-lived. At the end of the therapy, an anesthetic gel is placed at the entrance to the vagina and urethra, after which the area is treated with a laser. The duration of each procedure is between 30 and 40 minutes. Treatment is short and usually involves 3 sessions over 30 days.
What are the indications?
Fotona's IntimaLase® laser therapy is suitable for all cases of vaginal atrophy, including women:
- In menopause;
- After therapy of a malignant disease or other surgical intervention, who cannot use hormone therapy;
- Who do not respond to or have contraindications to topical estrogen therapy;
- With recurrent infections of the urinary tract; With recurrent pain, vaginal discomfort or bleeding during intercourse;
- With reduced elasticity of the vagina, slight prolapse or weak leakage of urine with minimal physical effort, as a result of a traumatic vaginal delivery.
How do I know if I am suitable for treatment?
In the presence of clinical complaints of vaginal atrophy, which can be affected by IntimaLase® therapy, you can book an appointment for a consultation at MC MARKOVS. During the preliminary examination, your AG specialist will clarify whether your complaints meet the indications for laser therapy. Before each procedure, a Pap smear and a microbiological examination of the vaginal discharge will be performed.

Fotona's IntimaLase® laser therapy has an extremely low risk of procedure-related complications. Are there any contraindications? Fotona's IntimaLase® laser therapy is contraindicated in case of vaginal infection, abnormal pap smear result, menstruation, pregnancy. It is weakly effective in obesity with a BMI >40, as well as in severe degrees of genital prolapse.
