Condylomas

Condylomas (so-called warts) are flat or raised benign skin growths caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). The most common strains that cause warts are HPV 1-4, HPV 7 and HPV 10, HPV 26-29, HPV 41, etc. In general, they are all low-risk and have no oncogenic potential.

Warts are highly contagious, multiply easily and quickly, and are transmitted by direct contact (touch).

There are several main types of warts:

Common warts (Verruca Vulgaris) They are found mainly on the fingers, palms or under the nail plate. They can also appear on the face, eyelids, knees and elbows. They typically appear as small, rounded, skin-colored bumps and have a rough, hyperkeratotic surface.

Plantar warts (Verruca Plantaris) are located on the feet, on the lower and lateral surface of the space between the toes. They cause discomfort and pain when walking. They often tend to grow into the skin.

Flat warts (Verucca Plana) are found mainly on the face, hands and lower legs. They are typically observed in children and young people. They are flat, skin-colored or reddish bumps with a smooth surface that spread quickly.

The diagnosis and determination of the type of warts requires an outpatient examination by a specialist dermatologist.

Treatment depends on localization, severity, presence of additional factors such as allergies, pregnancy, etc. Your dermatologist may use liquid nitrogen treatment (cryotherapy), curettage, or electroknife or laser excision. Direct destruction of lesions and hyperkeratotic skin is aimed at with minimal recovery period and discomfort for the patient. If necessary, instructions are given for home therapy, under the supervision of a specialist. In the months after treatment, preventive examinations are scheduled to prevent relapses.
