Hair loss
Hair loss (Alopecia) is a condition in which the scalp begins to lose a greater number of hairs than normal for a certain period of time (i.e. more than 100 hairs per day).
It is observed when the duration of the three physiological phases of hair follicle development (anagen, catagen, telogen) is disturbed.
Hair loss is a dermatological problem for which you should consult a dermatologist.
After a thorough clinical examination and additional laboratory tests (if necessary) your dermatologist will suggest the most suitable treatment plan for you.

There are several main types of hair loss:
- Androgenic alopecia - this is the most common type of hair loss and is usually called male pattern baldness (in men) or female pattern baldness (in women);
- Alopecia areata - this is an autoimmune condition in which the immune system attacks the hair follicles. Hair loss is in small round patches on the scalp or other parts of the body;
- Hair loss caused by stress, illness, medication or hormonal changes – associated with sudden shedding of hair which is usually temporary;
- Traction alopecia – seen with repeated tightening of the hair as a result of tight ponytail hairstyles, braids, etc. Over time, this can lead to hair loss in the affected areas.
Hair loss can affect both men and women and can occur at any stage of life. Hair thinning can start suddenly or gradually and have different duration.
The most common causes of hair loss can be:
- Family stress plays an important role in androgenetic alopecia, which is the most common cause of hair loss;
- Certain health conditions - severe and/or prolonged bacterial and viral infections, surgery, anemic or malnourished conditions, and various nutrition disorders;
- Medicines - some medicines used in chemotherapy or to treat certain health conditions can can lead to hair loss as a side effect;
- Stress - physical or emotional stress can cause hair loss.
Classic methods of hair loss treatment include:
- Treatment of the underlying disease;
- Use of energizing shampoos;
- Topical means to stimulate the growth of healthy hair;
- Vitamin therapy leading to healing and restoration of already damaged hairs.
- Mesotherapy with vitamins and microelements
