Clinical Gynecology
Colposcopy
Colposcopy is a highly specialized part of the gynecological examination in which the surface of the cervix, the walls of the vagina and the external genital organs are visualized by using an optical device (colposcope).
The method is particularly valuable and has a large clinical application in the evaluation of the cytologically signaled women with precancerous cervical disease.
Colposcopy does not require special preparation on the part of the patient and is usually performed in the first few clean days after the end of the last regular period.

The necessary requirement to perform it are the availability of high quality medical equipment (colposcope) with high resolution and a qualified ОB specialist.
Usually, the indications for performing a colposcopy are:

- Abnormal prophylactic Pap smear result (PAP > III; ASCUS, ASC-H, persistent LSIL);
- Cervical evaluation in women with high-risk HPV types (16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66);
- Genital bleeding during intercourse;
- Unspecified genital bleeding (including menopause);
- Cervical dysplasia (cervical intraepithelial neoplasia - CIN);
- Site selection for targeted biopsy of the cervix;
- Follow-up after invasive manipulations (conization, LLETZ, diathermocoagulation, etc.).
Periodic colposcopy in combination with other diagnostic methods (Pap smear, targeted biopsy, etc.), is an absolutely prerequisite for adequate diagnostic and therapeutic oncoprophylaxis.
In addition, it is used as an auxiliary method in other procedures such as diathermocoagulation of the cervix, electroconization - LLETZ, etc.
All "colposcopically signaled" women are offered subsequent second stage diagnostic examinations - targeted biopsy, histological examination, etc.
Consequently, the qualification of the gynecologist remains of utmost importance for the quality of the examination.

All our patients at MC MARKOVS can take advantage of the full range of tests necessary to assess the woman's colposcopic status. The tests are carried out in a comfortable environment with high quality equipment by qualified specialists.
