Polypectomy
A polypectomy is a minor surgical procedure to remove cervical polyps. They represent a local overgrowth of the lining of the cervical canal (cervix is a term used to refer to the cervix).
Cervical polyps are usually benign in nature, but often cause contact or spontaneous genital bleeding, heavy vaginal discharge, etc.
They are easily identified during a routine prophylactic gynecological examination after inserting a speculum into the vagina (an instrument for visualizing the vagina and cervix).
The removal of the cervical polyp (polypectomy) takes place in a manipulation room equipped for the purpose, in which, under constant visual control and with special medical instrumentation, the polyp is grasped, removed and sent for histological examination.
The manipulation usually does not require the introduction of a short-term general venous anesthesia (if the patient wishes, this can be arranged). It takes about 15-20 minutes and after that you can safely continue your usual daily activities.
